A classic example of an old style, mature Rioja Reserva for Bodegas Urbina. Made from 95% Tempranillo from vines all of which are over 20 years old. The nose has aromas of fine black fruits, black cherries, ripe plum, leather and tobacco notes which integrate perfectly with the oak. On the palate there’s more black fruit along with nutmeg, clove, vanilla, toast and cedar. It’s round, silky and smooth. Refreshing acidity, elegant, complex and a long finish.

THE WINERY

The Urbina winery was established in 1870 by Salvador Urbina and it is now run by the fourth generation Urbinas still in the town of Cuzcurrita del Río Tirón. Blessed with the foresight to farm organically, they are also in possession of a famed single vineyard, Valle del Ángel. They vinify using indigenous and spontaneous yeasts, before aging the wine in American and French oak barrels for two years. This particular vintage then rests for over twenty years in the winery. They claim “harmony and balance” with “no edge”.
