Yes, it’s the 2020 vintage! I say that because I haven’t found it in stock anywhere. When I bought this from an agency in 2021 there were so few available I was only allowed to buy 4 bottles. I had originally thought I would hold onto these for myself but that’s not why I’m in this business. I want you to enjoy great wines. So buy this, cellar it or drink it, but just enjoy it, life is short.
Bright cherry red in colour. An ethereal red with hints of cacao and violet. Elegant on the palate with damson and spice. More generous than it’s un-oaked cousin. Vinification – 80% destemmed and 20% whole bunch, fermented in bins for five days and then transferred to 25l barrel and 1200l fuder (large, German oak vat), for six months. The two components were then blended in stainless steel and shortly afterwards bottled by gravity with a small sulfur addition. Drink now or can be cellared for a further 10 years.
ABV 11%

THE WINERY
Ben Walgate grew up on a farm on the Lincolnshire Wolds, and his immersion in rural life from a young age has had a strong influence on his approach to wine… an interest which in turn was derived after visiting his first vineyard in Burgundy (one that is now certified biodynamic) aged 22. He knew immediately that he wanted to work with wine and immersed himself in various parts of the trade including winemaking and vineyard management, import and sales. His goal however was always to realise the original dream of owning and operating a small farm with a vineyard at its core. The farm he has found to start this project totals 70 acres, on which he intends to farm livestock and agro-forestry as well as the vines, of which five acres or so are going in to start with, with up to 30 acres possible in due course.
