On the nose this wine has rich luscious aromas of sweet ripe dark cherry, plum, vanilla and Christmas spice. On the palate it’s rich and velvety with flavours of black cherries, black plums and currants. Well integrated tannins, good acidity and a long finish. This is a great wine for roasted and grilled meats, game dishes and mature hard cheeses.

THE WINERY
The Bertoldi Gran Passione family winery started in 1932 situated near Lake Garda very close to the city of Verona. This winery focuses on creating beautiful, traditional, high quality wines that are typical of the area, whilst making them accessible in price to expand peoples’ experience of Italian wines.
The Merlot and Corvina grapes are hand-harvested on two occasions, 50% are picked in September, at optimal ripeness, and the remaining 50% are picked in October, allowing time for increased maturation and concentration. After harvest, the grapes are crushed and left in contact with the skins through fermentation and maceration of around 10-15 days. The September batch remains in stainless steel tank until the October batch has been vinified, at which point they are blended. The finished wine is matured in large Slavonian oak barrels for 3 to 4 months before bottling.
