How would we best describe Miami…New York with a beach! What you expect as a first time visitor is beaches, sun and art deco buildings but what you actual get is so much more. A vibrant, multi-cultural, cosmopolitan city with beaches!
You have all the regular must see tourist destinations such as South Beach and Little Havana but what you really want to do is spend some time in the less popular areas.
Brickell in Downtown Miami, originally designed to be the financial district of the city has contemporary architecture, fashionable boutiques, a vibrant night life with every cuisine you could hope for. Don’t forget to make time for a roof top bar or two, we recommend you try Sugar.
If you like designer fashion or even architecture then a trip to the Miami Design District should be on the list, this purpose built area has been designed to house only the best designer brands in what can only be described as cool architectural chic surroundings. Take your credit card if you want to drop some real cash or just take the time to do some window shopping and take in all the beautiful urban surroundings, sculpture and art.
For something a bit further out of the city a must see is Wynwood, an up and coming suburb of Miami, which retains a unique outdoor area featuring walls of colourful street murals by artists from around the world. The surrounding area retains cool urban retail outlets and eateries with locals and tourist mixing throughout. If your all about the night life then a night out in Wynwood is an experience, if you don’t mind a strong cop presence that is, the restaurants are highly rated, with us recommending R House providing a mix of culinary dishes and to finish off with a dance at El Patio a Latin bar where you will meet all the locals.
In short Miami is more than just a city with a beach it’s a buzzing architectural, artistic and vibrant place to be. Keep an eye out for the next stop of the East Coast tour down to The Keys.
